It was a joke, stupid!

Sometimes one can really despair at people’s stupidity. At the Oscar telecast Alec Baldwin had a stand-off with George Clooney. Every time the name Clooney was mentioned Baldwin stared at the actor accusingly and George scoffed back. It was clear as crystal that this was a joke and Clooney played along. Yet people were upset and rang the station. An official statement was released explaining that this was all planned - there was and is no animosity between the two actors. You can watch this nice interlude on youtube in Russian. Well, you don’t need to know Russian. It’s the typical Russian “dubbing” - some bloke speaks over the real voices, but you can still hear the original - very annoying. Poor Russians:

Another creature from the sea: Neil Jordan’s “Ondine”

It seems that I only watch movies involving sea creatures. After the cute “Ponyo” there was “Ondine“, directed by Neil Jordan. Colin Farrell plays an Irish fisherman who catches a beautiful woman in his net. His ill daughter believes that this woman who calls herself Ondine is a magical creature and somehow Farrell´s character wants to believe it too. Of course he falls in love, and then not-so-magical people appear and threaten this Irish idyll. And it really is beautiful - one wants to go on a plane and spend time in this beautiful part of Ireland - County Cork.

But you can’t feast on beautiful landscapes alone. Yes, Alicja Bachleda is breathtaking beautiful ( no wonder Farrell fell for her in real life - they now have a son together) and Mr Farell is also very charming. Unfortunately however the movie never decides whether it wants to be a fairytale or a thriller. Not good. But at least you get a suggestion as to where to spend your next holiday.

Sandra rocks!

Sweet, sweeter, Ponyo

Hail to Japanese animation. Here you are, on a Sunday afternoon, fighting the masses at Leicester Square, arriving slightly out of breath at the cinema and then this sweet creature pops out on the screen. Director Hayao Miyazaki has already given the terrific and magical “Spirited Away” and “Princess Mononoke” to the world. And now he tops it with “Ponyo“, a sweet natured sea creature who becomes an even cuter girl. This movie is heartwarming and showers you with good vibes. As does this clip from youtube:

The Tucker-Punch

Oh, what a glorious thing is youtube. While we were all bemoaning the closing of our favorite music station 6 Music, one very talented person edited a smashing video. Mark Thompson, head of the BBC and the villain in this affair, was interviewed by Jeremy Paxman. Scary Paxman. That fellow Paxman, who can reduce you to gibber. Like he did to poor Mark Thompson. Wait, not poor - let’s not forget, he’s the villain. Anyway, some human being who is much better with video editing than I am put this interview together and edited in scenes from my beloved show “The Thick of It” and its glorious character Malcolm Tucker, played by the magnificent Peter Capaldi. Marvellous. Let’s have a look:
